For nearly 60 years, Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) and Yale School of Medicine (YSM) have affiliated with one another to provide the highest quality care to people in the Northeast region and around the world.
Both organizations have grown significantly, advancing our knowledge, innovation, and capabilities along the way. With advancement comes opportunity to do even more for the communities we serve by closely aligning our operations, care delivery, and strategic investments. An enhanced partnership will allow us to grow more effectively and flourish in today’s constantly changing and challenging health care environment.

Key Alignment Priorities

The priorities guiding the achievement of our aspirational statement are Joint Strategic Planning, Economic and Operational Alignment, and an Aligned Clinician Enterprise (ACE). Across each, we are focused on improving quality, value, and efficiency, and enhancing the experience for our patients, clinicians, and staff.
Joint Strategic Planning
YSM and YNHHS have developed a joint strategic plan that includes five strategic pillars: differentiated system-wide service lines and destination programs; unparalleled access, customer experience, and care network; exceptional quality and value; leading-edge clinical and translational research; and continuous learning and innovation.
Economic & Operational Alignment
YSM and YNHHS are working together to ensure the alignment of financial incentives with our aspiration to be a premier academic health system and support our collective clinical, educational, and research missions. At the center of this work is a transparent, formulaic, and efficient funds flow model between YNHHS and YSM.
Aligned Clinician Enterprise
In 2023, we launched a new Aligned Clinician Enterprise (ACE), with the intent of integrating the business and clinical operations for YNHHS and YSM. With a shared strategic plan, the alignment of our clinicians around a common quality platform helps improve patient outcomes, enhance communication, increase standardization, and enhance operational efficiency across our academic health system. This work is led by Margaret McGovern, MD, PhD, CEO, Yale Medicine, and executive vice president and chief physician executive, YNHHS.
